Description:
The System Administrator’s role is to maintain, upgrade, and manage server and information systems. The System Administrator ensures that systems are optimized, resources are managed, security is maintained, and backups and support systems are available. The System Administrator will have strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, which will be used to resolve issues and maximize the benefit of IT systems investments.
Responsibilities:
- Broad system experience with Microsoft, Linux, Apple macOS, and/or other operating systems.
- Apply operating system patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
- Involves installing, configuring, and maintaining servers (physical or virtual), monitoring performance, troubleshooting issues, and implementing security updates.
- Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Implementing backup solutions to protect data, creating disaster recovery plans, and testing backup procedures.
- Maintaining accurate system documentation and generating regular reports on system performance and incidents.
- Collaborating with IT teams to plan and implement infrastructure upgrades, evaluating new technologies, and making improvement recommendations.
- Provide Tier I support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
Expected Skill Set and Qualification:
- Bachelor’s (4-year) degree, with a technical major such as engineering or computer science.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux), networking, and server hardware.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Communication: Effective communication with end-users and colleagues.
- Security Awareness: Understanding of security protocols and best practices.
