Introduction<\/strong><\/p>\n

The following are suggestions for healthy sexual communication.<\/p>\n

Between men and women, there can be a lot of double meanings, confusion, and missed communication. When this happens around sexual issues, it can mean trouble-like acquaintance rape.<\/p>\n

FACT: We have been taught to value certain kinds of communicating (pleasant and agreeable for women, tough and domination for men) \u2013 but these are stereotypes which often lead to poor communication.<\/p>\n

It is very important to communicate what you really want. You have the right to set sexual limits and to communicate them. It\u2019s not unfeminine to express an interest in having sex, and it\u2019s not \u201cuncool\u201d to make your lack of interest clear.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t\u2019 like what someone is saying or doing to you, tell them how you feel. Be very clear and assertive. If you mean no, say \u201cNo\u201d<\/p>\n

Be firm if necessary. You have the right to be rude and aggressive in threatening situation.<\/p>\n

Pay attention to non-verbal cues \u2013 yours and his. Make sure that you aren\u2019t giving mixed message\u2026saying \u201cNO\u201d but act like \u201cYes\u201d<\/p>\n

Ask yourself, \u201cCan I say no clearly?\u201d before entering into a potentially-dangerous situation.<\/p>\n

Things Men and Women often think, but don\u2019t say to each other<\/strong><\/p>\n

Men<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s very hard to always be the one to offer yourself. Some men are afraid that women say yes, but mean no. Men don\u2019t\u2019 like to pretend they always want sex. Men are afraid of being rejected and turned down.<\/p>\n

Women<\/em><\/p>\n

Women are socialized to believe they should always to along with that men want, in spite of what they want. Many women are afraid of hurting men\u2019s feelings. Some women don\u2019t like pretending that they don\u2019t\u2019 want to have sex. They may enjoy sexual contact \u2013 hugging, foreplay \u2013 but do not want to have intercourse.<\/p>\n

Men and Women<\/em><\/p>\n
